The City of Midland and the Rockhounds hosted a watch party for Bryce Hoppel

MIDLAND, Texas (KOSA) -We brought you coverage throughout this week of Bryce Hoppel’s Olympic run in Paris.

Today he competed in the men’s 800 Meter final with a chance to win gold and to watch today’s big event. The city of Midland and the Rockhounds hosted a watch party for the Hoppel Olympic race.

The Midland community packed the Diamond Club at Momentum Ballpark for the watch party.

Midlanders were able to show their patriotism and support for Bryce Hoppel as he competed for a gold medal.

The Midland High alum Bryce Hoppel finished fourth in the men’s 800-meter final setting the American record, but it was not enough to win a medal.

The community is still proud to see Hoppel making a deep run in the Olympics.

“A culmination of years and years of sacrifice, discipline, consistency, health, blood, sweat, and tears so it’s been an honor and a privilege to have a friend like Bryce.” said Bryce Former High School Teammate Jaylen Tryon.

Despite not winning the medal Midlanders still see it as a huge accomplishment for Hoppel.

“I mean honestly, he has already won at the Olympics and made it to the finals. It’s amazing we are rooting for him and so he has already won.” said Midlander Denise Norman.

There is a positive atmosphere throughout the city of midland seeing Hoppel’s journey throughout his young career representing Midland and the U.S in Paris.

“It is a lot of fun to just follow him to have his connections with his family with people in town everyone is super excited. It brought a lot of buzz to town.” said Midlander Josh Sparks.

As the Olympics comes to a close Midlanders are ready to see Hoppel compete again in the next Olympics that are set to be hosted in Los Angeles, especially his former teammate Jaylen.

“Bryce, I am so proud of you to keep blossoming and keep prospering. In four more years, we will have the Olympics here in the U.S it sets up well for another PR and a medal.” said Jaylen Tryon.
