PIGSKIN PREVIEW: Monahans Loboes

MONAHANS, Texas (KOSA) - The Monahans Loboes are coming off of a 12-1 season in 2023.

The Loboes will have a Quarterback battle with Cheno Navarrette graduating and signing at U.T. Permian Basin. With Cheno gone, Monahans has a Quarterback battle at the start of training camp.

“We have a junior, Dylan Pittman; we have a sophomore, Lucas Chavez, they’re both going to get a lot of good reps and we’re going to see what happens,” said Monahans Head Coach Fred Staugh.

“You better watch out, he (Chavez) can throw it deep, throw it anywhere; Dylan Pittman can too, he can run exclusive, do anything he puts his mind to,” said Malachi Barnes.

Cole Pittman ran for over 1,000 yards in 2023. He will be a go-to option on offense along with Boe Endman and Joseph Vinzor.

Even with several graduates leading the defense, Staugh is confident with the regular season on the horizon.

“I feel good going forward, we got a lot of guys who played a lot of football for us, we pursue the ball well, we tackle real well, I expect those guys to be violent and physical and get after it,” said Staugh.

The Loboes will open their season on August 30th when they face the Shallowater Mustangs.
