Cowboys Camp: Sam Williams out with torn ACL, opening door for Marshawn Kneeland
OXNARD, California (KLTV) - In any training camp when a man goes down, like Sam Williams who suffered a torn ACL, and is out for the season, that means next man is up. No different here.
Williams’ counterpart Marshawn Kneeland, a rookie, now gets his chance to get more reps, with Williams out for the rest of the season. It could help determine his playing time in just his first season in the NFL.
“It changed a little bit would you see it or not? Because with him here I was still getting a play quite a bit amount. But now there’s that much more reps that I have to take so, I just got a step it up a notch,” Kneeland said.
Coach Mike McCarthy said it’s all part of the training camp process.
“As far as what we do moving forward, frankly, this is really what training camps are about. I know we have some young players. They are going to have a great opportunity, as far as moving forward with you know bringing in any other guys to me that’s all the part of, normal training camp process,” McCarthy said.
The second round draft pick out of Western Michigan is a fast learner and he’s going to have to be. Under the tutelage of former Cowboys defensive end Greg Ellis, he’s learning new tricks at his position.
“It’s been great, definitely a great pass rusher and a great person too. So nice to be able to see myself improve even. For the first day of camping out. Play as much as I can help the team out as much as possible. It still the same mantra, but but there’s a lot more on my back.”
